ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Dixie State women's basketball team pulled away from Holy Names to win 82-66 on Saturday afternoon.
Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) led Dixie State (4-6, 3-1) with 20 points and 10 rebounds while
Taylor Maynes (Salome, AZ/Salome) added a double-double also, notching 10 points and 10 boards.
"It was good to get a win today and get a lot of girls time on the floor," head coach
Jenny Thigpin said. "They work hard in practice and it was great to get everyone in the game. The girls played hard from start to finish."
Twelve different members of the Red Storm scored points and DSU's bigs dominated the paint, outscoring Holy Names (2-10, 1-3) 40-16 down low.
A late run in the first half built up a 10-point lead at the break for the Red Storm.
Tied at 27-27 with 4:49 to play in the first half, Dixie State got eight straight points from Mann to push the lead to 35-27 after another layup.
Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) hit a trey just before the buzzer at halftime to make it 38-28. Mann had 16 points and eight rebounds in the first half.
The Hawks cut the lead to six points in the first few minutes of second-half action but Dixie State turned on the gas and started to pull away.
Maynes hit back-to-back threes to give DSU a 20-point lea at 58-38 near the 10-minute mark.
With the lead growing, Coach Thigpin was able to empty the bench and get every player into the game and win it 82-66.
Dixie State is off until New Year's Eve when the Red Storm take on Academy of Art at 12 p.m. in the Burns Arena.
