Dixie State reaches 10 wins, downs FPU 4-1

Mason leads seniors with another goal for the record books

ST. GEORGE – For the first time since 2010, the Dixie State women's soccer team posted a 10-win season. The final win came on Senior Day Saturday as the Red Storm downed Fresno Pacific 4-1 in Pacific West Conference play.

"It was a great game to end the year and celebrate our seniors," Dixie State head coach Kacey Bingham said. "We had four different goal scorers and a great defensive effort."

FPU took an early lead when DSU keeper Danica Nusink (Springville, UT/Springville) let a crossing pass slip through hands and deflect into the net.

The Storm answered quickly with a score from Darian McCloy (Herriman, UT/Herriman) on a beautifully lobbed pass from Jasmine Arollo (Glendale, AZ/Apollo).

Near the end of the period, Dixie State posted two scores for a 3-1 halftime lead. PacWest leading scorer Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) netted her 40th career goal from 10 yards straight away in the 33rd minute. Alexis Torres (Tucson, AZ/Palo Verde) literally backed into her goal off a Tana Singley (Farmington, UT/Viewmont) corner kick; the crossing pass bounced off of Torres' back for the score.

7108Mindi Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest) added the final goal of her Dixie State career firing a laser from 20 yards out in the 80th minute. Arollo added her third assist on the goal.

In support of Mason, Beckstrom, Emily Fox (Lehi, UT/Lehi), Aarika Andersen (Bountiful, UT/Woods Cross) and Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta), the DSU defense held the Sunbirds to seven shots while Nusink was solid in between the pipes.

"The seniors have been a huge part of our success and we wish them the best," Bingham said.

Mason had half of the Storm's 12 total shots for the match while McCloy had three shots.
