DIXIE STATE at HSU STORYLINES

 

Season finale in Northern California: Dixie State (1-9, 0-5 GNAC) will return to the road for the final time in 2014 for a Great Northwest Athletic Conference rematch with Humboldt State (7-2, 3-2 GNAC) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Redwood Bowl. The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. PT, 2 p.m. MT. Live coverage of the game will be broadcast on SouthernUtahLive.com and ESPN SportsRadio 106.1 FM with John Potter calling the action from the booth. Dixie State heading to the RMAC: Dixie State University announced today it has accepted an invitation to join the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) as an associate member for football, effective July 1, 2016. Dixie State's 12 other NCAA Division II programs will remain in the Pacific West Conference. The Red Storm will play the 2015 football season as its final year as a football-playing member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference before making the move to the RMAC.

Storm vs. Humboldt State: The Jacks lead the series, 11-6. Humboldt State has won eight of the last 10 meetings, including a 50-3 blowout of the Storm in Week 3.  Dixie State claimed two win sin 2013 – 49-24 in Arcata and 28-19 in St. George. The Storm are 2-6 in series games played at the Redwood Bowl. 

Jake Miller (Tremonton, UT/Bear River) leads Storm All-Academic: Nine Dixie State players earned GNAC All-Academic honors, led by a 3.9 GPA from senior defensive end Jake Miller (Tremonton, UT/Bear River). To qualify for the GNAC Academic all-conference team, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.20, be in their second year of competition at their current institution, and must be a projected letter winner. The other Dixie State All-Academic honorees were: Zac Christian (Plain City, UT/Fremont), Hayden Cooper (Overton, NV/Moapa Valley), Justin Ence (St. George, UT/Pine View), Jake Hardcastle (Midway, UT/Wasatch), Maurice Maxwell (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde), Antonio Morton (Seattle, WA/Ballard), Garland Munns (Garland, UT/Bear River) and Trevor Oakley (Santa Ana, CA/Foothill High School ).

GNAC review: Azusa Pacific won its second consecutive GNAC title with a 15-point victory over Simon Fraser, 21-6, at Swangard Stadium as Terrell Watson rushed 128 yards and two touchdowns (5 and 55) and quarterback Chad Jeffries tossed a 28-yard TD pass to Ethan Zeidler. A 72-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Bergman to Tyrell Williams late in the third quarter gave Western Oregon a 26-10 lead and the Wolves held on to beat the Lumberjacks, ending Humboldt State's post-season hopes Hardrocker quarterback Trent McKinney and Southwest Baptist's Willie Tindal combined for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns as the visitors outlasted SD Mines 54-50 at Rapid City.

Brum's coaching ledger: Scott Brumfield is in his fifth year as head coach of the Storm. Brumfield has an 11-42 collegiate coaching record. Prior to being Dixie State's head coach, Brumfield was offensive coordinator at DSU. He was the head coach at his alma mater, Spanish Fork High School before moving to DSU.
