REDLANDS, Calif. –
Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead the Dixie State women's basketball team to an 80-62 win in an exhibition game against the University of Redlands on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Storm used a big run in the first half to get in the driver's seat of the game. DSU shot 53.3 percent in the first half and held Redlands to 30.0 percent in the first half and 32.0 for the game.
Miller made 5 of 9 from downtown, and 6 of 11 total from the field en route to her 23 points in 24 minutes of play. She added two steals, two assists and a rebound.
Brianna Jessop (Hyrum, UT/Mountain Crest) just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. She also had two blocks, a steal and an assist.
Down early again, the Red Storm put together a 13-0 run midway through the first half to turn the tide of the game.
At the 9:29 mark,
Sandria Bolden (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman) put in two free throws to start the run, followed by a make from Jessop after an offensive board.
On the other end, Bolden and Miller drained back-to-back triples to make it 23-16 with 7:34 on the clock. For the second time in as many days, Miller was fouled on her trey and turned it into a 4-point play.
Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) added another layup to give DSU a 26-16 lead with 7:10 to go.
The Storm stayed in control until halftime, taking a 43-31 into the break.
In the second half, Redlands cut the lead back to single digits with 10:20 to go, but Dixie State wouldn't have any notion of allowing a comeback.
Miller hit another trey and then got fouled on her next 3-point attempt and cashed in for three straight makes from the free throw line.
Haileigh Emerine (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) added a two to make it 65-48 with 7:21 to go. She finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
Dixie State led by as many as 21 and never gave up a double-digit edge the rest of the way to an 80-62 win.
The Red Storm will play one more exhibition game before the regular season against UNLV on Nov. 10.
