Cougars extend shutout streak, Storm fall 2-0

Dixie State falls for first time in last four matches

AZUSA, Calif. – Dixie State women's soccer saw its three-match win streak snapped after a pair of Mayra Almanzan goals gave host Azusa Pacific a 2-0 win over the Red Storm in Pacific West Conference play.

The Cougars (7-6-1, 5-2-1 PacWest) held a 12-7 shot advantage and stymied league leading goal scorer Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) to zero shots. Darian McCloy (Herriman, UT/Herriman) and Aubri Detmer (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) each has two shots for Dixie State (7-6-1, 5-3 PacWest).

"We didn't bring the offrot we needed in the first half and gave up an unnecessary goal," DSU head coach Kacey Bingham said. "We brought the effort in the second half, but didn't bring the execution."

Almanzan scored off a cross in the ninth minute and added a left-footed blast in the 83rd minute.

Dixie State used a pair of goalkeepers. Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) got the start and made one save against six shots faced in 59 minutes of action. Danica Nusink (Springville, UT/Springville) closed the game making two saves over 31 minutes.

"I'm impressed with the heart that we played with, but weneeded to find the back of the net," Bingham added.

The Red Storm head to San Diego to take on PacWest-leading Point Loma on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. PT.
