Notes from Monmouth: Freshman safety Nate Perry returned a fumble for a TD in the second quarter – DSU last returned a fumble for a TD against APU in 2012 (Ray Chapman)… Dixie State held the ball for only 20:24 against WOU – that is the second lowest single-game time of possession in the Storm's NCAA era (20:12 in a 24-14 loss at Adams State in 2011)… WOU had a 300-yard passer, 100-yard receiver and 100-yard rusher on Saturday; the first time that has been accomplished against DSU this season… DSU had three players record 10 or more tackles in a game for the first time this year (Christian 11, Latu 10, Miller 10).

History with the Cougars: Azusa Pacific leads the series 7-3 overall. The Cougars have won the last four meetings dating back to November 2012. Dixie State and APU each have two wins in games played in California. The Storm's last win in Glendora was a 24-22 victory in the 2012 season. Down 10 points with seven minutes left in regulation, Zack Fox hauled in a TD reception and defensive back Ray Chapman returned a fumble 32 yards for the game-winning score. Cache Morgan also had a GNAC record 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Running with Watson: Terrell Watson leads the NCAA Division II ranks with 1,081 rushing yards and is the number one weapon in the Azusa Pacific offensive arsenal. Watson, a three-time GNAC Offensive Player of the Week, paces the leagues best rushing attack averaging 263.2 yards per game. APU ranks fourth in total offense (392.0) and second in total defense (329.8) using its eagle scheme. Quarterback Chad Jeffries has thrown for 738 yards and six touchdowns. Tanner Henry is Jeffries' favorite target for 232 yards and five TDs. On defense, linebacker Steven Fanua paces APU with 41 tackles.

GNAC review: One week after entering the AFCA Top 25, Humboldt State spurted out to a 14-0 lead at Azusa Pacific. The Cougars controlled the rest of the game to knock the Jacks from the ranks of the unbeaten, 55-21. APU tailback Terrell Watson became the first player in any level of NCAA play to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark with 200 yards and three touchdowns. Central Washington and South Dakota Mines combined for 1,006 of total offense as the Wildcats won on the road, 61-34. CWU quarterback Jake Nelson threw for 348 and five scores. In non-conference action, Simon Fraser was defeated at Idaho State, 66-14. Jordan Herdman led the Clan with 17 tackles on defense.

Brum's coaching ledger: Scott Brumfield is in his fifth year as head coach of the Storm. Brumfield has a 10-39 collegiate coaching record. Prior to being Dixie State's head coach, Brumfield was offensive coordinator at DSU. He was the head coach at his alma mater, Spanish Fork High School before moving to DSU.
