Box Score HONOLULU – Starting the longest road trip of the year with a win, the Dixie State women's volleyball team defeated Chaminade 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-21) on Monday night.
Dixie State (11-5, 8-0) remains undefeated in the Pacific West Conference after another straight-set victory; the eighth of the season.
The front line was strong for the Red Storm with 13.0 total blocks. DSU hit .239 for the match. Chaminade (10-9, 3-6) posted a negative hitting percentage.
An early 5-0 run in the first set built a 10-4 lead for the Red Storm. Dixie State continued to keep the pace with an 18-9 edge, eventually rolling to a 25-14 win.
Nicole Koehler (Sandy, UT/Alta) had three kills and a solo block in the first set.
Chaminade came back to stay within striking distance in the second set. The Red Storm never got rattled however and stayed in front early on and won set two 25-16.
Maddie Rex (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) put in three kills and Makenzie Bird had one solo block.
Dixie State faced an even tougher test during set three, trailing 18-14 to the Silver Swords. A kill from Koehler, back-to-back Chaminade errors and a kill from Rex tied up the set at 18-18.
Three consecutive points put the Red Storm ahead 21-18 as part of a 7-0 run to regain the lead after an ace from
Kara Cotter (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane).
The run was enough to propel DSU to another 3-0 sweep, completing the comeback in set three to win it 25-21.
Dixie State plays at Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday at 11 p.m. MT.
