Storm Outran by First Place Urban Knights

Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Dixie State University women's basketball team dropped a 98-85 home match-up to Pacific West Conference leader Academy of Art University inside the Burns Arena on Thursday evening.
 
The Red Storm (8-10/6-6 PWC) used 15 first half points from Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork) to take a 38-37 lead at the half.
 
But the first place Urban Knights (14-6/11-1 PWC) shot 50 percent, scoring 61 points and had four players score in double figures in the second half to put away the Red Storm.
 
DSU built a six point lead at 51-45 on a Taylor Maynes (Salome, AZ/Salome) up and under with 16:41 left. But, the Knights continued to chip away at the lead and from the sixteen-minute media to the twelve-minute media; they outscored the Storm 14-2 to take a 62-53 lead.
 
The resilient DSU squad didn't just lie down and die. They clawed their way back into to contest with 6:57 remaining. Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) started and ended a 10-2 run with a pair of three pointers and Maynes added two crucial buckets to cut the lead to three points at 77-74.
 
But the Urban Knights would follow with a run of their own and squeeze the final breath out of the Red Storm.
 
Holmstead would finish with a game-high 27 points and Miller added another 21-point performance.
 
Five players in double figures led ARTU, Regina Camera had 21 points and Krystal Forthen finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Dixie State continues its six game home stand on Saturday night when they welcome the Penguins of Dominican University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
