Miller's School Record Eight Three's Not Enough to Overcome Azusa Pacific

Box Score AZUSA, Calif. – The Dixie State women's basketball team dropped a Pacific West Conference game tonight 74-69 to Azusa Pacific in the Felix Events Center in Azusa, Calif.
 
Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) connected on a school single game record with eight three-pointers and finished with 28 points, but her hot hand was not enough to lead the Red Storm to victory.
 
After falling behind by 11 points and trailing 45-34 at the half, when Miller hit a three pointer with 14:07 left to cap off an 8-0 run and cut the Cougar lead to two points.
 
After a Cougar basket extended their lead back to four points, the Red Storm went on a 9-2 run to take a 58-55 lead with 10:33 left.
 
The see saw battle continued until APU's Allison Greene would connect on a three pointer to give the Cougars a 67-66 advantage with 1:43 left.
 
Three of the 20 Red Storm turnovers in the game came in the last 30 second of game and forced the DSU to foul and the Cougars capitalized and held on for the victory.
 
Haleigh Emerine added her second double-double of the season by registering 16 rebounds and 10 points.
 
Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) and Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork) added 11 and 10 points respectively.
 
The Red Storm shot 33.3 (23-69) from the field and outrebounded the Cougars 49-36. APU shot 39.3 (22-56) percent from the field and managed just 15 turnovers.
 
The Red Storm dropped its second straight contest and fall to 7-9 on the season and 5-5 in the PacWest.

The Cougars were led by Greene and her team-high 23 points as they improve to 10-5 overall and 8-1 in PacWest play.
 
Dixie State will play again on Saturday Jan. 25 at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego and tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. Mountain Time.
