WBB: Storm Tripped up By California Baptist

Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Despite a game-high 34 points from Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork) the Dixie State women's basketball team dropped a pivotal Pacific West Conference game to California Baptist 79-62 tonight at Van Dyne Gymnasium.

Holmstead finished 14-28 from the field and 6-9 from the charity stripe and added four rebounds, as she tried to lead the Red Storm to victory.

DSU tried to get over the five hundred mark for the first time this season, but dropped to 7-8 overall and 5-4 in PWC play.

Leading 36-31 at the half, the Lancers (7-8 overall/5-4 PWC) added to their lead by shooting 62.5 percent (15-24) in the second half.

A key to the success of the PacWest leading Storm has been the rebounding of the basketball and tonight the Lancers outrebounded DSU 36-28.

Haileigh Emerine (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) led DSU in boards with 11, while she added eight points as the next leading scorer.

Credit the defense of the Lancers who held Brianna White (Phoenix, AZ/Tolleson Union) and Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) to just three points each. Miller finished 0-13 from the field and 0-12 from three-point range. DSU (0-13) did not make a shot from behind the arc in the contest.

Four players scored in double figures for the Lancers, with Elise Shelton and Kamille Diaz each scoring 17 points.

The Red Storm continue its road trip on Monday with a rematch with Azusa Pacific at 6:00 pm Mountain Time.
