Crusaders Top Red Storm Spikers in Three Games

Box Score SAINT GEORGE, UT -- The Dixie State volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Northwest Nazarene in straight sets 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 this afternoon at the Student Activities Center.

Looking to try and build on its impressive balanced win last night over the Crusaders (1-1 overall), the Red Storm (1-1 overall) struggled to keep that momentum going today.

DSU had no answer for the Crusaders Elayna Rice, who finsihed with a match-high 18 kills and added 14 digs. Rice converted on seven kills in the first game to lead NNU on a 9-1 run to jump out to an early 1-0 lead.

The finall two game were almost carbon copies of each other, as the Crusaders jumped to an early lead only to see the Red Storm comback and nearly tie the match at 20. But, NNU would finish each game on a 6-2 run to take home the victory.

Senior Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) led the Red Storm with 15 kills and Nicole Koehler (Sandy, UT/Alta) added seven more. Libero Alex Anderson (Prescott, AZ/Prescott) had a game high 22 digs.

Dixie State travel to Las Vegas, NM next week for four matches a at the New Mexico Highlands Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
