SAINT GEORGE, UT -- The Dixie State women's soccer team opened Pacific West play with a 2-0 win over Hawaii Pacfic on Saturday night at Hansen Stadium.

After playing to a stalemate in the first half, the Red Storm (3-3-1/3-1 PWC) used a goal in the 46th minute by Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta) and added a second in the 54th minute when Ashley Wade (Saint George, UT/Pine View) found the sprinting Megan Marchbanks (Springville, UT/Springville) down the right side, who chipped it in from 24 yards out.

Dixie State controlled the game from the onset, outshooting the Sea Warriors (2-4/0-1 PWC) 17 to 11, but was unable to capitalize early on several attempts that just missed the back of the net.

Just after the half, Thurman took possession of a free ball from about 35 yards out and dribbled down the left side and deposited it in traffic just past the outreached hands of HPU goalie Anu Kahele-Manners for her second goal of the season to give DSU the 1-0 lead.

A few possessions later, Marchbanks scored her first goal of the season on assist from Wade.

In goal, Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) recorded two saves in the first half, but Cecilee Horlacher (St. George, UT/Snow Canyon) earned the victory to improve to 2-1-0 on the season.

The Red Storm return to the pitch on Monday afternoon when they host Chaminade University at 4:30 pm at Hansen Stadium.
