Box Score 2 SAINT GEORGE -- Needing to win both games to secure themselves a share of the Pacific West Conference Championship, the Dixie State softball team swept No. 17 Grand Canyon 8-7 and 8-0 in six innings at Karl Brooks Field on Saturday.
The Red Storm (37-12, 25-7 PacWest) earn their second PacWest Championship with Hawaii Hilo defeating Hawaii Pacific on Saturday night. Both titles have been shared with Hawaii schools. The first, in 2010 with HPU and this years with UHH.
In the opener and for the third consecutive game, the Red Storm trailed 2-0 and used a five-run inning to overtake the Lopes.
Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial )'s bases loaded triple in the fourth inning gave DSU an 8-4 lead.
In the top half of the fifth, Grand Canyon wasn't going away quietly and added three more runs off Red Storm starter
Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School). With runners on second and third with two outs,
Kate Coffey (Fallon, NV/Churchill County High School) entered and induced a groundout to curb the Antelope threat. Coffey would pitch the final two frames allowing only one hit and earning her second save of the season.
Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) lead DSC with two hits in the game.
The Red Storm made a statement in the second inning of game two, scoring four times to take a 4-0 lead. A run in the fifth and three in the sixth ended the contest under the 8-run rule and gave Dixie State at least a share of the championship.
Timely hitting helped pace the Red Storm in the second game. Hine added three more hits and three RBI along with
Kylee Bufton (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork High School)'s game winning double off the top of the fence to lead DSU to victory.
Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) also added two hits and an RBI.
In the circle, Coffey needed just 55 pitches to dispose of the Antelopes. She allowed just four hits in six innings of work to improve to 11-5 on the season.

The Red Storm will await the release of the West Region rankings on Monday morning at 8:30 am on NCAA.com. In the poll on Wednesday, DSU was ranked No.3 and GCU was No. 2. It is expected that the Red Storm will move into the No. 2 spot and host a four-team regional May 10-12.
