SAINT GEORGE, Utah – Sixth-seed Cal State Dominguez Hills jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to a 9-3 victory over Dixie State in the second-round of the NCAA II West Region 2 on Saturday morning, May 11, in Saint George, Utah.

The Seawolves and Vulcans will square off at 1:30 p.m. MDT in the first elimination contest of the three-day sub-regional.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will advance to the championship game on Sunday and will need just one win to move into the best-of-three series next weekend.

The survivor of Hawai'i Hilo, Dixie State and Sonoma State will need to beat the Toros twice on Sunday to advance.

Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs batted in for the Red Storm, while Siera Phillips (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) was 2 for 3 with a run and one RBI. Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) and Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) each had a hit and a run.

The Toros scored nine runs on just seven base hits but benefited from five Red Storm errors - leading to seven unearned runs.

Cal State Dominguez Hills scored twice in the first and once in the second for a 3-0 lead, then doubled the advantage with a three-run fifth to put the Toros on the cusp of ending the game on the mercy rule.

But Dixie State fought back, scoring once in the fifth with a Cue RBI single and twice in the sixth thanks to Siera Phillips (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) and Cue to halve the Cal State Dominguez Hills' advantage.

The Toros, however, used a three-run seventh - all runs unearned - to secure the win and advance to the title game.
