Storm Roll in Sweep of Azusa Pacific

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAINT GEORGE, UT -- Riding the wave of timely hitting and solid pitching, the Dixie State softball team cruised to a 5-2 and 9-0 Pacific West Conference sweep of Azusa Pacific at Karl Brooks Field.

Despite managing just four hits in the opener, the Red Storm (32-11,20-6 PacWest) used a four run second inning to lead them to victory over Azusa Pacific (21-20, 10-14 PacWest).
 
Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) executed a perfect squeeze RBI bunt that plated the first DSU run. Later in the inning with two outs, Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) singled to center, scoring Reiter and the speedy Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School).
 
Four runs was all Red Storm ace Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) would need. Her performance wasn't her sharpest of the season, but was good enough to improve to 15-2 on the year.
 
Dixie State rolled to victory in the second game scoring in the first three innings to take home the 9-0 run ruled five-inning victory.
 
Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) had an RBI single in the first and then hit a three run home run in the fourth to finish with two hits and four RBI.
 
Kylie Bartlett (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial High School), Hine, Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School), and Kylee Bufton (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork High School) each had an RBI in the win.
 
In the circle, Red Storm hurler Kate Coffey (Fallon, NV/Churchill County High School) picked up her fifth straight victory to improve to 9-4. She overmatched APU batters by allowing just three hits and retiring the last eight hitters she faced.
 
The Red Storm and the Cougars do battle again tomorrow in a doubleheader that begins at noon at Karl Brooks Field.
