Red Storm Women Season Ends with 74-88 Loss to Hawaii Pacific

Box Score

AZUSA, Calif. – The Dixie State women's basketball season came to a screaming halt tonight in the semifinals of the inaguaral Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament as they lost 88-74 to the No. 1 seed Hawaii Pacific.

20 points from Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ), 14 from Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) and 11 from Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) was not enough to lead the Red Storm to victory.

HPU jumped to a 41-25 halftime lead after shooting 44.7% (17 for 38) from the field and 66.7% (6 for 9) from beyond the arc. The Red Storm shot just 37.0% (10 for 27) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

HPU outrebound the Red Storm 42-39 and used that to outscore DSU 42-18 in the paint. 22 Storm turnovers led to 22 HPU points.

Depsite outscoring the SeaWarriors 49-47 in the second half, the first half deficit was too much to overcome.

Mikela Thoemmes also reached twin-figures for the Sea Warriors, scoring 13 points while also collecting a team-high seven rebounds.

Hawaii Pacific improves to 19-6 on the season, while Dixie State ends the year at 15-13.

Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood), Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ), Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder), Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) and Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, CA/Canyon) played in their final game tonight as a member of the Red Storm.

The Sea Warriors will play for the PacWest Conference Tournament Championship and the automatic berth in the NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday, March 9, at 4:30 p.m. PST against #3 Academy of Art. The Urban Knights bounced #2 Grand Canyon 60-58 in overtime.
