Red Storm Win Opener, Lose Nightcap at Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Dixie State softball team homered six times in the opening game to defeat California Baptist 9-1 in six innings and run their win steak to eleven games. The Red Storm dropped the nightcap 4-2.

Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) and Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) each homered twice to help the Red Storm (24-9, 15-5 PWC) to their 12 hit attack of the Lancers (15-12, 9-9 PWC).

Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) and Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) also added home runs for DSU.

In the circle, Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) cruised to victory and improved to 12-2. She allowed just one earned run, three hits in six innings of work. She also added five strikeouts.

Cue had three hits and two RI, Brown had two hits and four RBI, while Hine and Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) each added two hits.

In game two, DSU lost 4-2 after the Lancers chased starting pitcher Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) in the third inning.

Despite being out hit seven to six, CBU managed to capitalize on four walks and an error. The Lancers scored four runs, including a two run home run and a two run double in the first and third innings.

Duncan relieved Snow by pitching four shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three.

Siera Phillips (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) and Hine each had two hits for DSU. The Storm scored on a Brown RBI groundout and a Cue RBI single.

Dixie State completes the four game series with Cal Baptist tomorrow at 12 pm MT.
