The Coach
Randy Simkins enters his fifth year as head softball coach of the Red Storm Softball Program for the 2013 season. This will be Simkin's second stint as DSC head softball coach. In 2004, he led the then Rebels to a school best 49-6 record while the school competed as a NJCAA program.

In just over five years his record is 182-55. He has led the program to three of their four consecutive NCAA regional appearances. In 2012 they fell to the national runner-up UC San Diego in the Western Regionals.

Sandwiched between his time as DSU, Simkins was the head coach at Dixie High School. He has spent 15 years as a head softball coach in high school, including six years at Canyon View HS and four at Dixie HS. He also coached boys basketball at Canyon View for three seasons.

Simkins and his wife Sharlan have two children, Summer and Shane. He has also adopted their cousins Jarrett, Jillian, Jaselle and Jaxson.

The Urban Knights Swept
With a sweep of the Urban Knights at home earlier this week, the Red Storm ran their winning streak to 10 games. In the series DSU pounded ARTU pitching for 36 runs and 47 hits.

Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) and Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) had and outstanding performances during the series. Judkins remained a perfect 21 for 21 in stolen bases; she also leads the Red Storm in hitting at a .448 clip. She added six stolen bases and was six for ten with two doubles and two RBI.

Brown made a splash, settling right in after completing her women's basketball season. She was 8 for 14 with three home runs and 11 RBI. She also adds a quiet security to the left side of the infield with her defense. She robbed several Urban Knights of base hits with stellar plays this past weekend.

Storm recognized by the PacWest
Earlier in the season, Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) was named as the PacWest Player of the Week for games played Feb 4-10. Cue went 13 for 24 with eight runs scored, two doubles, six home runs and 16 RBI. She also walked three times and recorded a sacrifice fly.

For the same period, Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) was named the PacWest Pitcher of the Week.
She was responsible for three of the victories during the Red Storm 5-2 week. She had a 0.39 ERA. She tossed complete game victories, including a pair of shutouts, and struck out 19 batters over 18 innings of work.

Scouting the Lancers
The Lancers enter the series with a 14-11 overall record and a 8-8 PacWest mark. They just returned home from the Hawaii road trip in which they lost their first game and then won the next three games over Hawaii Pacific. They ran their steak to six in a row with two wins over BYU-Hawaii and a first game victory over Chaminade. They closed out the road trip with a nightcap loss to Chaminade and two losses at Hawaii Hilo.

It has been an up and down season for the Lancers, having two different three game losing streaks. Add that to a six game winning streak and two different three game wining streaks.

The PacWest defending champs have two players hitting over four hundred with Savannah Miller at .426 and Sloan McHann at .405. Rachel Meyer provides a steady punch of power with 10 home runs and 26 RBI.

In the circle Jessica Avilia who is 9-5 with a 2.44 earned run average leads CBU. She has carried a major brunt of the work, throwing 91 and two thirds of the 160 innings played. The other two pitchers have an ERA over six and batters hit over .320 against them.
