LAIE, HI -- The Dixie State softball team wrapped their Hawaii road trip today by completing a four-game sweep of BYU Hawaii with a 9-1 and 10-1 win at the BYUH softball field.
The Red Storm (19-8, 10-4 PWC) finish their road trip 8-2 and have won their last six contests.
In game one, DSU scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone for the rest of the day.
Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) set the tone by drawing a lead-off walk, stole second, moved to third ona wild pitch and scored on a passed ball giving DSU the 1-0 lead even before the second hitter
Kylee Bufton (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork High School) could complete her at bat.
Four of the Red Storm's six hits came in the first inning and they capitalized on three Seasider errors.
DSU added two more runs in the top of the fourth, when Judkins again singled and stole second and then scored on an
Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) single.
Judkins led th six hit attack with two hits.
Starter
Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) pitched a complete game, striking out six batters and allowing five hits to improve to 9-2 and win the five inning run-rule shortened game.
In game two, the Red Storm scored one run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Cue.
DSU pounded out 15 hits, including scoring runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ),
Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School),
Autumn Woodfall (Kaysville, UT/Davis High School),
Brook Budge (Springville, UT/Springville High School), and
Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) each had doubles for the Storm. Cue added her eigth home of the year in the top of the sixth inning with a solo shot.
Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) pitched her second solid game, by allowing four hits while striking out five to improve to 8-4 on the year.
The Red Storm return home to Karl Brooks Field for a PacWest four game series with Academy of Art on Monday and Tuesday. The doubleheaders each day will begin at 3 pm.
