Box Score

SAINT GEORGE -- Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Dixie State women's basketball team to a 75-67 win over Fresno Pacific tonight inside the Burns Arena.

Brown was 9-15 from the floor and 8-12 from the free throw line on her way to earning her 11th double double of the season.

The two squads battled back and forth for the first five minutes of the game before two Brown free throws gave the Red Storm the lead for good at 10-9 with 14:07 left. DSC scampers on an 18-4 run to build a 13-point advantage with just less than seven minutes in the half.

A quick 5-0 run cut the DSC lead to eight points, but the Red Storm followed with a 10-3 run to end the half and take a 39-24 lead. Brown scored 10 of her game high 26 points in the first half.

The second half was much like the first, a seesaw battle that saw FPU make quick runs, but the Red Storm would have an answer.

With seven minutes remaining the Sunbirds, down 19, made an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 11 with just five minutes remaining. Dixie State was able to hit their free throws down the stretch and shut the door on a Fresno Pacific comeback with a pair of Jordan Giles (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) free throws with 44 seconds remaining.

The Red Storm outscored the Thunderbirds in the paint 48-26, an outrebounded FPU 50-39.

Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) and Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) each scored 10 points off the bench to help lead DSC to victory and improve to 9-10 overall and 7-4 in the PacWest.

Callie Koubec led FPU with 18 points in the loss that drops them to 4-16 overall and 4-9 in the PWC.

The Red Storm will now prepare to hit the road for a four game road swing to the San Francisco Bay Area. It begins on Saturday Academy of Art at 2 pm.
