GAME INFO: Dixie State welcomes the Burns Arena Fresno Pacific University to Saint George for their first ever meeting. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 pm, with live audio coverage on Dixie State All Access (DixieAtheltics.com/showcase) and 91.3 FM KXDS. "Voice of the Red Storm," John Potter has the play-by-play and the game will be streamed live on DSC All-Access as well.

ALL-TIME vs. FPU: The Red Storm hold the 1-0 advantage in the all-time series. DSC won the meeting in Fresno on 12/8/12 87-64.

LAST TIME OUT:
PHOENIX, -- The No. 14 Grand Canyon University women's basketball team defeated Dixie State tonight at GCU Arena, 68-58. The Antelopes improved to 18-4 overall and 10-1 in Pacific West Conference play, while the Red Storm fell to 8-10 overall and 6-4 in the conference.

In the loss Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) tallied 23 points on a 9-19 performance including four steals in just 27 minutes.

GCU's defensive efforts were on full display tonight as they held the Red Storm to a 36.5 percent mark from the field (23-for-63). Grand Canyon was strong on the boards by outrebounding DSC 48-32.

Grand Canyon led by as many as 21 points in the game, including a 33-25 advantage at the half. They were aided by 22 points in the paint and 17 points off turnovers.

GCU was led by Maylinn Smith with 17 points that included 12 of those in the first half. Judy Jones added her NCAA leading 15th double dobule with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The two teams were quick to get the scoring going, as GCU built an early 10-6 lead just five minutes into the game. GCU and Dixie State then exchanged baskets for the next four minutes until the Red Storm closed the gap to one point, 16-15, with 11 minutes remaining in the first. GCU then used a 12-2 run to extend their advantage to 26-17 with just over five minutes to play.

The Red Storm scored eight unanswered points to pull back within three points, 28-25, with under two minutes remaining; however, the 'Lopes scored the final five points of the half to carry a 33-25 advantage into the locker room.

The 'Lopes allowed just three points to Dixie State in the first five minutes of the second half as they built a 40-26 lead. The Red Storm would close the gap to 48-35 at the 8:29 mark, but GCU's offense gave them a 21-point lead, 56-35 with just under six minutes to play.

Before the contest was over, Dixie State would pull within single digits, 65-56, after outscoring GCU 21-9 over a six-minute span. The Red Storm posted a much better field goal percentage in the final 20 minutes with a 40.6 mark (13-for-32), while the 'Lopes were limited to a 29.2 percent mark (7-for-24).

Leading scorer Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) scored 18 points and had rebounds in the loss. It is the second straight loss for the Red Storm, and their seventh in their last nine.


LAST MEETING AGAINST FPU: Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) scored 22 points off the bench to lead DSC to a 87-64 win over FPU. The Storm shot nearly 50 percent in the second half to lead them to the victory. Four players finished in double figures, including 17 points and 13 rebounds for Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ). Keairra White led FPU with 22 points, including 12 of those from the charity stripe.

NCAA STATS: Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) currently ranks 7th in the NCAA in rebounding at 11.7 per game. She also ranks 12th in double-doubles with 10. As far as a team, DSC is 23rd in assists per game (16.30) and 48th in scoring offense.

SCOUTING FRESNO PACIFIC: FPU had won four straight games, until Holy Names tripped them up on Saturday night, 79-74. The teams leading scorer and the PacWest No. 2 scorer Keairra White scored 30 points in the loss. She averages 18.8 ppg on the season and Keri Stephanoff averages 10.3 ppg to lead the Thunderbirds offensively. FPU shoots 32.5 percent from the field, 26.2 percent from behind the arc and 66.5 percent from the charity stripe. They average 18.8 turnovers per game and 39.3 rebounds a game.
