Red Storm Drop Final Home Game of 2013 to Hawaii Pacific on Senior Night

SAINT GEORGE, UT -- On senior night the Dixie State women's basketball team dropped their final home game of the 2012-13 season to Hawaii Pacific 79-72 on Monday night inside the Burns Arena.

Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) bid farewell by scoring a team high 17 points and Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) added her 15th double double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Trailing 41-35 at the half, the Red Storm surged into a 6-0 run to start the second tying the game at 41. But HPU followed with a their own 6-0 run to regain the lead 47-41.

The Red Storm did manage to cut the Sea Warrior lead to one point at 48-49 with 12:40 left on two Brown free throws, but never tie or regain the lead.

HPU had three players finish in double figures with Susannah Walmsley leading the way with 21 points. She connected on four of eight three pointers. Melody Ladrido and Skye Savini score 18 and 16 respectively.

The Sea Warriors controled the paint by scoring at will all night with players slashing through the middle. They outscored the Red Storm 34-16 inside. HPU shot 44.8 from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc.

DSU shot 38.7 percent from field and just 64 percent from the foul line. They could not capitalize on 25 attempts, making only 16 of the them.

Seniors Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) scored eight points and grabbed one rebound, while Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) scored eight points and had seven rebounds in the loss. Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, CA/Canyon) had two points and five rebounds.

With the loss to HPU, the Red Storm will now be at best the three seed in the upcoming PacWest Tournament in Azusa, Calif. on March 7-9.

DSU drops to 13-12 on the season and 11-6 in the PacWest and HPU improves to 17-6 overall and 13-4 in the PacWest.

The Storm will travel to Point Loma on Saturday for their final regular season game of the year. Tip off is scheduled for 3PM in San Diego, Calif.
