Brown, Hayes and Thomas Lead Red Storm to Win Over BYU Hawaii

SAINT GEORGE, UT -- Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ), Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) and Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) all scored in double figures to lead the Dixie State women's basketbal team to 80-49 win over BYU Hawaii on Saturday night in the Burns Arena.

Brown led the Storm with 22 points and 13 rebounds and added seven assists. Hayes added 14 points and eight rebounds and Thomas chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds.

The DSU defense turned it up a notch, forcing the Seasiders to 29 turnovers that led to 31 Red Storm points. The Storm held BYUH without a field goal for the final 12:12 of the game and outrebounded the Seasiders 60-38.

After jumping out to a 15-8 lead on a Jaymee Brugman (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) layup, the Red Storm led by seven. But the pesky Seasiders wouldnt back down, answering with their won 10-2 run and take a 18-17 lead with 9:04 left.

DSU regained the lead and went on a 28-6 run on the end of the half and led 54-24 at intermission.

The second half saw the Storm dominate both the glass and the floor as they secured the home victory. DSU shot 40.2 percent from the field and outscored BYUH 44-10 in the paint.

With the win DSU improves to 13-11 overall and 11-5 in the PacWest, while BYUH drops to 6-16 overall and 5-11 in PacWest.

Senior night is Monday night when the Red Storm welcome Hawaii Pacific at 5:00 pm in the Burns Arena.
