Red Storm Volleyball Debut at No. 9 in NCAA West Regional Poll

NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 13) – Having won nine of their last 10 games the Dixie State University volleyball team made program history today by debuting at No. 9 in the second version of the 2013 NCAA Division II West Region poll.

The Red Storm, 17-8 overall and 14-5 in the Pacific West Conference play, make its initial appearance after winning four consecutive matches. Two of those wins have come against No. 7 ranked California Baptist and Hawaii Pacific.

This week's regional ranking, the second of three official regional polls to be released prior to the post-season tournament selections on Nov. 24, remains identical in the first four positions in the poll. UC San Diego, BYU-Hawaii, Cal State San Bernardino, and Sonoma State maintained their positions in the top four spots, while the highest-ranked of four GNAC schools in the top 10, Western Washington University, moved from sixth to fifth. Central Washington followed suit in climbing from seventh to sixth, followed in the poll by California Baptist University and the GNAC member Alaska Anchorage. Dixie State follows at ninth and Northwest Nazarene at 10th in this weeks poll.

DSU is aiming for its first appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament in program history.

The top eight teams in the region, assuming conference champions from the GNAC, California Collegiate Athletic Association, and Pacific West Conference are among the top eight, will qualify for the regional tournament that will be held Dec. 5-7 at a site to be determined.

The Red Storm close out its regular season Saturday against Point Loma, who is in second place in the PWC but is ineligible for postseason during their transition period to the NCAA. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. in the Student Activities Center.
