CLASSIC OFFENSE VS. DEFENSE BATTLE – STORM ON THE ROAD TO FACE CWU
The Dixie State University football team (No. 29 passing offense in the country) travels to Ellensburg, Wash., for a stern test in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference against Central Washington University (No. 9 total defense in Division II). The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Mountain) time from Tomlinson Stadium and be broadcast via radio coverage on ESPN SportsRadio 106.1 FM with John Potter. The Dixie State Athletics All-Access channel online will simulcast the game online on DixieAthletics.com/Showcase. Central Washington will provide a video feed via Stretch Internet – links for all media are online at DixieAthletics.com.
RED STORM VS. THE WILDCATS
Until the 2012 season, the all-time series had been entirely one-sided in favor of the Wildcats. The first eight meetings ended with CWU in the win column. Only three of those meetings saw final margin of CWU victory less than10 points. The Red Storm got their only win in the series last year – a 29-21 win at Hansen Stadium on Oct. 6. Griff Robles (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) led a comeback effort as the Storm scored 19 consecutive points in the third and fourth quarters. DSU accumulated 478 passing yards and a program-best 585 total yards in the victory. CWU took the rematch in the 2012 season finale, 51-19, in Ellensburg. All three DSU quarterbacks (Robles, Kaleo Nawahine (Fruitland, ID/Fruitland), Brody Garr (Taylor, UT/Fremont)) fired touchdown passes, but the Wildcats took the GNAC league title behind a stellar effort from running back Jordan Todd (192 rush yards, 3 TDs).
RED STORM RUNS OVER SIMON FRASER
Quarterback Griff Robles (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) had more than 400 yards in total offense for the second week in a row as the Red Storm gained 584 yards in a 27-point home win over the Clan. Dixie, which gained the 12th most yards in GNAC history, bolted to a 39-0 lead after three quarters before giving up a pair of touchdowns in the final 5:34 ... Robles finished with a GNAC season-high 427 yards, rushing for 176 yards and completing 13 of 27 passes for 251 yards. He had six touchdowns, scoring on runs of 15 in the first quarter and 34 in the third quarter and tossing TD passes of 9 yards to Randon Willard (Santa Clara, UT/Snow Canyon) in the opening period, 11 to tight end Joe Don Duncan (Corona, CA/Notre Dame) and 7 to Willard in the second quarter and 48 to Duncan in the third period ... Last week, Robles had 401 yards, rushing for 118 yards and passing for 283 in a 49-24 win over Humboldt State ... Robles leads the GNAC in 200-yard passing games, reaching that figure in all five of Dixie State's contests ... Robles and Myles Burton (Berkeley, CA/Rodriguez) combined for 303 of Dixie's school-record 333 rushing yards. Burton had 127 yards on 16 carries ... Duncan led DSU's receivers with four catches for 96 yards ... Simon Fraser was held to 285 yards in total offense, 71 rushing and 214 passing. Defensive back Robert Metz (Tucson, AZ/Canyon Del Oro) and linebacker Jake Duncan (Corona, CA/Notre Dame) each had eight tackles for the Red Storm. Duncan and nose tackle Saula Taufa (Manti, UT/Manti) had interceptions for DSU.
NOTABLES FROM THE SFU GAME:
Dixie State rushed for a program-best 333 yards against the Clan. The performance came on the heels of a 275-yard team rushing effort at Humboldt State the previous week. The Red Storm had a pair of 100-yard rushers for the first time (Robles 176, Burton 127) in the team's NCAA tenure. DSU also set single-game records in highest gain per play with an eight-yard average, highest gain per rush for an individual (Robles, 11.7 yards), and highest gain per rush for the team (7.6 yards).
A WIN BY DIXIE STATE WOULD...
• Mark the first three-game win streak in the Division II era and first since the end of the 2005 season (Phoenix, N.M. Military Institute, Garden City)
• Keep the Storm, at worst, one game back in the GNAC title race
• Be the 11th win in the month of October since the NCAA D-II transition in 2006; DSU is 10-21 in October games
GNAC RED LION PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:

ALL-AMERICAN DUNCAN
Senior tight end Joe Don Duncan (Corona, CA/Notre Dame) (Corona, CA) returns for his highly anticipated final year holding a prestigious accolade. Duncan was named to the D2Football.com Preseason All-American List on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Two seasons ago, Duncan earned all-league, all-region and multiple All-American honors after leading the country in receptions and yardage for a tight end. Phil Steele listed him as the 27th best draft eligible TE available and Lindy's Sports Annuals "Look Ahead" named Duncan as the ninth best TE in the country.
