Bird leads Red Storm to sweep of Hawaii Pacific

Box Score HONOLULU, HI -- After a grueling five set win last night over Hawaii Hilo and a short island hop this morning, the Dixie State women's volleyball team cruised to an easy 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 win over Hawaii Pacific on Friday night at St. Andrew's Priory.

The Red Storm (13-7/10-4 PWC) for the second consecutive night used solid hitting and stellar defense to overtake the Seawarriors (13-7, 7-5 PWC) for a Pacific West Conference victory. It marks the fourth consecutive victory for DSU.

DSU middle Makenzi Bird (Saint George, UT/Snow Canyon ) led the team to victory by hitting a whomping .625 for the match. She had a match-high 10 kills, committing zero errors in 16 attempts. She also added one block assist at the net.

DSU jumped on top of HPU early with solid serving, using four service aces to help guide them to the win. The Red Storm commited just 10 errors in 94 attempts for a .266 hitting percentage for the match.

Maddie Rex (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) continued to pace her squad with eight kills. Alex Anderson had 10 digs and (Prescott, AZ/Prescott)Kara Cotter added 11 digs. (Las Vegas, NV/Bonanza)Shelby Anderson# added 23 assists in the three set match.

Haley Doerfler led Hawaii Pacific with seven kills and Amanda Moriaty chipped in 10 digs.

The Red Storm conclude their quick four day three match trip to the islands with their most difficult test. They battle the No. 5 ranked Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii at 8 PM mountain time.
