VB: Red Storm Sweep Holy Names

Box Score SAINT GEORGE, UT -- Senior outside hitter Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) earned at match-high 14 kills to lead Dixie State to 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 Pacific West Conference win over Holy Names on Saturday afternoon at the Student Activities Center.

The Red Storm (11-7/8-4 PWC) had to wait for the Hawks to arrive, with the match starting over three hours after the scheduled time. DSU started the match a little flat, but used jumped on the back of Shelby Sorenson (Lehi, UT/Lehi) who served the Red Storm on a 4-0 run to win 25-21.

DSU hit .302 in the first game, .243 in second and .265 in the third for a .271 kill percentage. #

Head coach Robyn Felder was able to reach deep into her bench, as 13 players saw time on the court this afternoon.

The Hawks (0-21/0-11 PWC) failed to win again, running its streak to 21 straight. They hit just .102 for the match, committing 14 errors and earning just 26 kills. Melissa Munley had nine of those for HNU.

Felder received solid performances from Haylee Wilkes (Salt Lake City, UT/Brighton) (17 digs), Sorenson (28 assists), and Pauline VonDinklage (American Samoa/Fagaitua) (2 solo blocks and 2 kills).


The Red Storm depart on Wednesday for a three match and five day road trip to Hawaii. DSU will battle Hawaii Hilo, Hawaii Pacific and nationally ranked BYU-Hawaii.
