Red Storm Cruise to Victory Over Argonauts

Rex and Koehler lead with 11 kills

Box Score SAINT GEORGE, UT – The Dixie State volleyball team rolled to a straight set victory over Notre Dame de Namur 25-13, 25-18, 25-13 tonight in the Student Activities Center.

Having lost four straight matches, the Red Storm (10-7/7-4 PWC) looked to jumped on the Argonauts (4-14/2-8 PWC) early and often and dominated the three games.

DSU jumped on the backs of Maddie Rex (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) and Nicole Koehler (Sandy, UT/Alta), who each had 11 kills, and cruised to an opening game victory of 25-13. Koehler hit .667 for the match, making just one error. The team committed just two errors and hit a stellar .480 in the first game.

Early in the second game, NDNU looked a little upset and battled the Storm to an 8-8 tie.  Dominique Tarrant collected three of her team-high 10 kills but it just wasn't enough as the Red Storm would outscore them 17-7 to end the game.

The Red Storm made only nine errors in the match, which gave head coach Robyn Felder the ability to reach into her bench and allow others some much deserved playing time. Kara Cotter (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) and setter Kailey Avery (Timpanogos, UT/Timpanogos) each performed well in relief of Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) (5 kills, 8 digs) and starting setter Shelby Sorenson (Lehi, UT/Lehi) (25 assists).

"We executed very well tonight," said Felder. "It was nice to see us do the small things."

DSU also dominated defensively, amassing 10 team block assists, with Pauline VonDinklage (American Samoa/Fagaitua) leading with three. The Red Storm hit .278 for the match. Libero Alex Anderson (Prescott, AZ/Prescott) led with 12 digs and Rex added 10.

Dixie State welcomes Holy Names on Saturday Oct. 19 for an afternoon match that begins at 12 p.m.
