SB: Red Storm Split with Grand Canyon

PHOENIX -- On the final day of the regular season, the Dixie State softball team split a doubleheader with Grand Canyon. The Red Storm the lost the opener 1-0 and won the nightcap 8-0 in five innings.

Senior Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) allowed just the one unearned run and four hits in the opener, despite losing she lowered her season ERA to 2.04.

The Red Storm (36-11, 26-6 PWC) had seven hits off Antelope (34-19, 21-9 PWC) starter Sepulveda, but couldn't manage a run and were shut out for the first time this season.

Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) hit her 11th home run of the season in the second inning of the second game to give DSC an early 1-0 lead.

Two innings later, DSC erupted for six runs on five hits to give starter Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) the edge she needed to improve to 15-4 on the season and lower her ERA to 2.06.

Snow ptiched four innings, allowing three hits while striking out three GCU batters. She turned it over to #Michelle Duncan (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) who pitched the final frame.

Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School), Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School), and Shelia Gelter each had two hits of the Red Storm 12. 

The Red Storm now await the annoncement of the final NCAA Regional Rankings and tournament bracket on Monday morning at 8:00 am.

As the #3 seed in the West Region last week, DSC has an outside chance of hosting a sub-regional next week.
