SAINT GEORGE – The Dixie State softball team built their winning streak to 12 games as they swept BYU Hawaii 6-1 and 9-0 in 6 innings in a PacWest doubleheader today at Karl Brooks Field.

On senior day, the Red Storm (33-10, 23-5 PWC) honored senior pitcher Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School), infielder Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School), catcher Kylee Higgins (Layton. UT/Layton High School) and outfielder Kourtnie Schlachter prior to the start of the double header. Each lady was given flowers and a recap of their four-years careers.

Folta started game one by throwing a complete game, allowing three hits and an unearned run.  She struck out three batters and lowered her ERA to a stellar 2.07.

Mendenhall started things off with a 2-run triple in the bottom of the first to give DSC a 2-1 lead.

In the Red Storm fourth inning, freshman Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) led off with a double to right center and Higgins followed with a single through the left side. Higgins then stole second prior to Schlacter's perfectly executed RBI sacrifice squeeze bunt giving DSC a 3-1 lead.

Junior Kylee Bufton (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork High School) followed by hitting her second home run of the season, a two run shot to left center that gave the Red Storm a 5-1 advantage.

Schlacter added her second RBI of the game after freshman Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) singled and stole second base and a Higgins followed with a sacrifice bunt.

Bufton was the lone DSC player with two hits in the game.  For BYUH (11-22, 6-21 PWC) Tifanee Frampton had two of the three hits in the loss.

In game two, junior Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) broke out of her season long slump with by going 2-3 with a double, home run and four RBI.

Junior Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) grabbed two hits and extended her hitting steak to 17 games. She hit a dramatic home run in the sixth when it appeared that the Seasiders centerfielder Chandra Tewari had robbed her of eighth home run, but as Tewari's glove came down it hit the fence and the ball dropped over the fence for the round tripper.

Schlacter added two more hits and an RBI in her final home game.

Cue, Brown, Schlacter, and Reiter each had two hits to lead DSC to victory. Frampton for the second consecutive game had two hits.

Sophomore Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) improved to 13-4, pitching five innings, allowing two hits, no runs and striking out eight. Freshman Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) secured the win by pitching the final frame for DSC.

The Red Storm concludes their regular season with a four game series at Grand Canyon next Friday and Saturday.
