BELMONT, Calif. – The Dixie State softball team swept Notre Dame de Namur 3-2 in both games of a PacWest doubleheader today.

The Red Storm (25-10, 15-5 PWC) played for the first time in 11 days and used two strong pitching performances to lead them to victory.

In game one, senior Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pitched a complete game where she allowed six hits and two runs while striking out seven Argonaut (18-23, 6-12 PWC) batters to improve to 12-3 on the season.

In game two, sophomore Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) also pitched a complete game in which she allowed three hits and two runs while matching Folta's seven strikeouts. She is now 9-4 on the season.

The Red Storm offense scored runs in the second, third and fourth innings to lead them to victory. Freshman Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) hit her second home run of the season and led DSC with two hits in game one.

In game two, Freshman Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) led off the fourth inning with her team leading eighth home run to tie the score at 1-1.

In the fifth frame, junior Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) singled and senior Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) doubled to put runners on second and third base. Sherwin followed with an RBI single and two batters later Reiter singled home Mendenhall giving DSC a 3-1 lead.

Brown, Mendenhall and Sherwin each finished with two hits for DSC.

The Red Storm are in the middle of a eight-game San Francisco Bay Area road trip and continue play tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
