Box Score

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Dixie State softball team dropped their final game of the Mizuno Tournament of Champions to Cal State East Bay 3-2 in nine innings.

Despite having a 1-0 and one out in the top of the seventh inning, Red Strom (21-10) starting pitcher Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) allowed a home run to center field on a 3-2 pitch. The home run by CSUB left fielder Salmones forced the extra frames.

Dixie State scored their run in the fifth frame when Kylee Bufton (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork High School) doubled to right center with one out and Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) followed with and RBI single through the right side to give DSC a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, a sacrifice bunt by Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) moved Hine to third. The next batter Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) was hit by a pitch, but with two on a strikeout and a ground out ended the Red Storm threat.

CSU East Bay scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take a 3-1 lead.

The Red Storm responded with a run when Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) singled home pinch runner Bailee Freeland (Ogden, UT/Bonneville High School) to cut into the lead and make it 3-2. A sacrifice bunt by Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School), moved Reiter to second with one out, but DSC cold not force her home.

Bufton and Sherwin had two hits each for Dixie State in the loss.

Despite a 3-3 showing the TOC, DSC was had the second lowest ERA with a 0.84 ERA. That drops their team ERA on the season to just 2.56.
