SB: Storm split games on Day Two of Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Dixie State College softball team defeated Chaminade University 11-2 in five innings and dropped their opener to Cal State San Bernardino 3-2 to complete pool play of the Mizuno Tournament of Champions.
 
The Red Storm (21-9) finished 3-2 in their pool and will play a will await the completion of today's games to find out their placement in tomorrow's games.
 
In the first game this morning the Red Storm dropped a 3-2 game to CSU San Bernardino (15-22). The Coyotes capitalized on a DSC miscue in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal the game from the Red Storm.
 
Starting pitcher Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) allowed two runs, just one earned while striking out four batters before Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) took over in the seventh. The miscue handed Duncan her second loss of the season.
 
In the top of the seventh, Dixie State scored when Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) came in to score on a Kyle Bufton RBI double to left field.
 
Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School)'s RBI infield single scored the first run for the Red Storm in the fourth frame.
 
Despite pounding out nine hits in the game, DSC stranded 12 base runners and the Coyotes prevailed.
 
After a two-hour rain delay, game two against Chaminade finally began. Dixie State scored five runs in the first and three in the second and three more in the top of the fifth to take the mercy rule shortened five-inning game.
 
Red Storm hurler Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) earned the win, allowing two earned runs while striking out six. She improves to 11-3 on the season.
 
Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) hit a three run home run and finished with two hits. Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School), Mendenhall, Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) and Bufton all had two hits in the 15 hit Red Storm attack. Mendenhall also added two RBI.
 
The final day of the tournament is tomorrow and is seeded based on results from two days of pool play and is a tournament format. Please check DixieAthletics.com for updated times and game information.
