SB: DSC wins 5-1 over CSU Stanislaus

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Dixie State College softball team concluded the first day at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions with a 5-1 win over Cal State Stanislaus.
 
The Red Storm (20-8) scored five runs on five hits in the third inning to lead them to victory.
 
Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) led the inning off with a walk and Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) followed with an RBI triple down the right field line. #Courtney Hine followed with a double, plating Chavez and giving DSC a 2-0 lead.
 
Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) followed with an RBI single to center and Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) doubled on a 3-0 pitch to give DSC a 4-0 lead.
 
After Mendenhall advanced on a wild pitch, a Kourtnie Schlacter (Mira Loma. CA/Jurupa Valley High School) sacrifice fly plated the final DSC run.
 
Red Storm starting pitcher Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) picked up her 10th win of the season by allowing just one run on seven hits, while striking out four batters. The win was her second win of the day.
 
Mendenhall and Chavez each had two hits for DSC.
 
DSC plays two games tomorrow, the first at 10:00 am against Cal State San Bernardino and the last a non-conference game against PacWest foe Chaminade at 2:30 pm.
