SAINT GEORGE – Senior pitcher Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pitched her second straight shutout to lead the Dixie State College softball team to a 5-0 win over Hawaii Hilo in the first game of their PacWest doubleheader. In the nightcap the Red Storm made it eleven straight wins with an 8-5 win.

Folta led the Red Storm (18-7, 11-5 PWC) by striking out four batters and only allowing two hits and no runs to improve to 9-2 on the season.

Freshman Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) provided the blows to the Vulcan (14-11, 9-10 PWC) pitching staff in the game. She hit her second and third home runs of the season, a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the first and a three run bomb in the bottom of the second. She also scored two runs.

Besides Chavez, senior Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) and junior Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) had two hits apiece.

In game two, sophomore Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) pitched a complete game, allowing five runs, three earned, six hits while striking out seven to improve to 7-4.

The Red Storm scored six runs in the second inning to take the early lead and never look back. After loading the bases, senior Kourtnie Schlacter (Mira Loma. CA/Jurupa Valley High School) laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to plate the first Red Storm run and Chavez followed with an RBI single to right field.

Freshman Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) added the third run with an RBI single to right field. The final three runs in the inning came on Brown's sixth home run of the season, a blast to left center field.

In the third inning Hawaii Hilo cut into the Red Storm lead scoring one run by capitalizing on two DSC miscues.

In the fifth, DSC plated another run when junior Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) doubled into left center scoring freshman Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) from first.

The Vulcans would finally get to a Red Storm pitcher in the fifth inning. A hit by pitch, an error, and a walk loaded the bases for Erin Greene. On a 3-2 count she drilled a ball down the left field line for a grand slam that cut into the Red Storm lead at 7-5.

DSC added an insurance run in the sixth on a Sherwin double to left center.

Mendenhall and Brown each had two hits in game two as well.
