SB: Sweep Complete, Red Storm defeat Hawaii Pacific 9-1 and 6-4

SAINT GEORGE – Junior Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) had five hits and seven RBI to lead Dixie State to a sweep of first place Hawaii Pacific in a doubleheader today at Karl Brooks Field. The 9-1 and 6-4 wins lead the Red Storm to a four game sweep of the Sea Warriors.
 
Brown led the Red Storm offense with two hits and five RBI in the first game of the doubleheader. Her 3RBI triple in the second inning gave the Red Storm a 5-1 lead and her 2RBI double in the third inning gave DSC a 9-1 advantage.
 
The Red Storm managed 10 hits in the game with Brown and Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) with two each.
 
Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) allowed just one hit while striking out two and one unearned run to improve to 7-2 on the season.
 
In game two, Dixie State ran their win streak to seven games with a 6-4 win over the Sea Warriors.
 
Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) started the second game for DSC but was relieved by Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) in the fourth. Duncan finished the final four innings allowing five hits, two walks, and one earned run and struck six batters to improve to 2-1 on the season.
 
Duncan's lone miscue came in the fifth inning when Breanne Patton led the inning off with a solo home run to left center. She managed to work out of jams in the fourth and seventh frames to hold HPU at serve.
 
Despite pounding out 10 hits in the game, the Red Storm capitalized on five Sea Warrior miscues to complete the four game sweep. It marks the first time in school history the Red Storm have swept the season series from the Hawaii Pacific.
 
Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) and Brown each had three hits in the win for the Red Storm.
 
The Red Storm improves to 14-7 overall and 7-5 in PWC and HPU dropped to 17-9 and 11-5 in the PWC.
 
DSC next hosts Hawaii Hilo with doubleheaders both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Both games are slated to begin at 3:00 pm at Karl Brooks Field.
 
SERIES NOTES: The Red Storm entered the weekend hitting .288 and now are hitting .323 on the season….DSC outscored HPU 43-14….. and outhit them 43-21.
