Vaifanua collects double-double as Red Storm Cruise to 78-51 Win over Chaminade

SAINT GEORGE --It was senior night for the Dixie State basektball team and Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) collected her second double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds as DSC cruised to a 78-51 win over Chaminade at he Burns Arena.

Three other Red Storm players finished in double figures for Dixie State. Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) scored 13 points in just 14 minutes, Senior Shelia Adams added 10 points and Marcilina Grayer (South Jordan, UT/Copper Hills) scored a career high 10 points in her final home Dixie State home game. The other DSC senior Gabriella Rodriguez (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) finished with seven assists.

The Red Storm jumped to an early lead and never looked back, holding Chaminade to just 4-22 (18.2 percent) shooting in the first half. DSC led 33-13 at intermission.

Dixie State shot 47.9 percent from the floor, despite connecting on only 2 of 18 from three point range.

The Red Storm outscored DSC 54-18 in the paint and converted the 26 Silversword turnovers into 27 points. DSC largest lead in the game was 27 points.

Chaminade drops to 1-21 overall and 1-15 in the PacWest. Nikki Tauau led with 13 points and Jordan Ahakuelo finished with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Dixie State improved to 18-7 overall and 13-4 in PacWest play and remain one game back of Grand Canyon. GCU will be the final game of the season for the Red Storm next Saturday night in Phoenix.
