Box Score

ST. GEORGE - Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) led Dixie State with 18 points en route to an 80-64 win over Academy of Art on Saturday at the Burns Arena. The win extended DSC's streak to seven games and snapped ART U's nine-game string.

Dixie State takes over sole possession of first place in the Pacific West Conference improving to 16-5 on the year and 11-2 in league.

Coach Angie Kristensen said "I thought our team came very prepared tonight. They didn't need much motivation after the game in San Francisco."

Not sure if the Red Storm were seeking revenge from the early January 60-59 loss, but they seemed to execute and shoot the ball very well tonight.

Dixie State finished the night shooting 50.0 percent from the field. Despite not hitting a three pointer int he first half, the Red Storm still led 40-33 at intermission.

Up nine points with 16:39 left in the game, DSC used a 15-4 run to build their largest lead of the game at 62-42.

Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) finished with 16 points and Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) had 15 points.  Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) was the leading rebounder with nine for the game.

For the Urban Knights, they could only get production from one spot, Alisa Griggs who scored 26 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Dixie State held ART U to 30.6 percent shooting and won the rebounding battle 45-41. Despite turning the ball over 23 times in the game, DSC only allowed 17 points of those turnovers.

"We obviously need to cut our turnovers down, but to score 80 points is still a great sign for us. I was proud of everyone tonight. We had a great team effort," concluded coach Kristensen.

The Red Storm have Sunday and Monday off before welcoming the PacWest's newest member Cal Baptist to town for the first time. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
