GAME INFO:  The Red Storm return home for a quick two game homestand. They welcome UH Hilo on Saturday night in their Pacific West Conference opener. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. MT.  Listen to the live action on the Red Storm Radio Network -- KXDS 91.3 FM -- and online via DixieAthletics.com with John Potter calling the play-by-play and Colton Yack with the color commentary.

SERIES RECORD: This will mark the 13th time the two schools have played, with DSC holding the series lead at 10-2. The Red Storm defeated the Vulcans 59-51 on 1/30/12 89-72 in Hilo, HI. The Red Storm have won six straight against UHH and remain a perfect 6-0 at home.

LAST TIME OUT: With the score tied at the half, the Dixie State women's basketball team used a solid second half from Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) and Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) to help snap their three game losing streak with a 67-61 win over previously unbeaten Colorado State Pueblo. Thomas scored six of her 10 points and Munns seven of her 13 to help outscore the Thunderwolves 35-29 in the second half to secure the victory. “This was a win this team needed,” said head coach Angie Kristensen.
DSC outrebounded the Thunderwolves 45-42 with the help of Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) nine rebounds and Rachael Spinks (St. George, UT/Pine View) seven. The ultimate difference in the game was the play of the bench of the Red Storm. DSC outscored CSUP 38-12.

AROUND THE PACWEST:  This marks the earliest PacWest Conference opener for the Red Storm since joining the league in 2007. Both Dixie State and the Vulcans begin their eighteen game league schedule.

KRISTENSEN KORNER: “Obviously the real season starts this weekend.  With the conference season brings a new excitement.  We have had a tough stretch of games including our exhibition games.  It has been the toughest starting schedule since I have been at Dixie State,  which I am hoping is a positive thing down the stretch. We found out alot about who we are and where we want to go as we begin this new season.  Every game is very important!  We will not take any team lightly.  We will prepare for each and every team the same way.   This conference has gotten better every year and with the new additions our conference is that much stronger.”

SCOUTING the RED STORM: Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) has returned to form, leading the Red Storm in both scoring (13.2 ppg) and rebounding (11.2 rpg). DSC averages 71.4 points a game and shoots 40.2 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from three-point range. The Red Storm outrebound their opponents 45.8 to 41.2. Turnovers have been the issue for DSC. They cough up the ball 20.2 times per game.

SCOUTING HAWAII HILO: With four games under their belt, the Vulcans sit at 2-2 on the season. They average 66.5 points per game and shoot 42.4 percent from the floor. Kamie Imai is their leading scorer, having led the Vulcans in three of the four games. She averages 11.3 ppg and is the leading rebounder at 5.5 rpg. After winning their first two games, they have lost two in a row, most recently in a non-conference game at Hawaii Pacific 59-61.

KRISTENSEN on HILO: “Hilo always gives us a battle.  They will play hard and will be a tough matchup. Their Utah state transfer (imai) is their leading scorer and will have to find a way to shut her down.”
