SEASON OPENER: This marks the first time that the Dixie State women's team has opened their season with a home game. They welcome the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona for the first time to the Burns Arena. This is the second time the teams have played, with CPP winning the first meeting last season on 70-52. Listen to live radio coverage on KXDS 91.3 FM the Storm with John Potter (@PotterSez), or on DixieAthletics.com/showcase beginning 10 minutes before tip.

EXHIBITION RECAP: DSC finished the exhibition season with a 0-3 record – a loss at Southern Utah (59-71), a loss at Brigham Yong (57-79), and a loss at UNLV (53-68). In all three games, the Red Storm battled with their Division One opponents, only to have them pull away late in each contest.

LAST TIME OUT: 5th Year transfer Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) (Boise State) was the bright spot in all three-exhibition contests. She averaged near a double double during the warm-up sessions. After a year off playing softball, Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) returned with a vengeance, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Southern Utah. In 2010-11, Brown averaged 17 and 10 for the season. Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) played well in all three contests and led DSC in Provo against BYU with 16 points.
Coach Kristensen stressed the importance of always getting better and like how her teams battled and never gave up.
-The Red Storm are picked to finish 3rd in the PacWest. Preseason honors go to Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) and center Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood).
-DSC looks to improve on its 18-8 overall record from last season. Coach Kristensen is 108-53 (.671) in her six years as the head coach.
-Returning five starters and losing only two will help the Red Storm live up to their expectations.
-Look for the trio of Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, CA/Canyon), Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day), and Hayes to guide the Red Storm frontcourt and newcomer Jordan Giles (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) (Western Wyoming) to give some relief off the bench.
-All PacWest center Thomas will have the help of Munns to give DSC a solid inside presence.

• CAL POLY POMOA BRONCOS

-Picked to finish fifth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
-Now entering her third season, Bishop has a 2012-13 roster that includes nine returners and three newcomers. Monday's season opener in St. George, Utah, could feature the Bronco debuts of Ashley Boggs, Cydnie Jones and Rian Mew.
-CPP's three-member senior class consists of Jennifer Bryant, Rachel Hatch and Rachel Porter. Bryant worked her way into the starting lineup midway through last season and went on to start the final 15 games of the campaign.
-In their previous meeting, the Red Storm outrebounded CPP 43-31. But, in the game CPP got to the free throw line 35 times and held the Red Storm to 34.4-percent shooting en route to the 18-point victory.
-Through the 2011-12 season, which ended with the Broncos going 19-9 overall and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the third-consecutive year, CPP stood out among the CCAA teams in four distinct areas: defense, three-point shooting, rebounding and turnover margin.
-The Broncos allowed just 58.3 points per game to rank second in the conference for that statistic.
