WBB: Red Storm Freeze Out Penguins 89-59

Adams scores 26 and Thomas scores career high 19

Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif.Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) scored game high 26 points and Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) added a career high 19 points to lead the Dixie State women's basketball team to a 89-59 win over Dominican University.
 
The Red Storm (7-4, 2-1) used a solid shooting night, 49.3 percent (36-73) and grabbed a season high 55 rebounds as a team.
 
Coach Angie Kristensen said, “Tonight was a great team win, we needed a game like this to get our confidence back.  We distributed the ball evenly and our starters came out and set the tone early.”
 
Adams connected on 10 of 14 shooting and six of eight from behind the arc and Thomas finished 7-10 from the field. Both Adams and Thomas grabbed nine rebounds each.
 
“Sheila put on a shooting show tonight,” continued Kristensen. “She is our leader and we will ride her shoulders the rest of the way.”
 
The Red Storm jumped out to an early 12-2 lead and never trailed in the contest. They took a 40-31 lead into the locker room and led by as many as 35 points in the game.
 
The Penguins (1-11, 0-2) shot 34.8 percent from the field and were led by Kayla Valentine with 11 points.
 
Qorreah Joice (Los Angeles, CA/Windward) was the third Red Storm player to score in double figures with 10 points.
 
Coach Kristensen concluded, “Tonight was a great confidence booster for our kids, I am very proud of them.”
 
The Red Storm will have tomorrow off before playing their final game of the road trip against Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday afternoon in Belmont, Calif. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Mountain time.
