Box Score

SAINT GEORGE -- Senior point guard Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Dixie State women's basketball team to a 57-50 win over Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday night in the Burns Arena.

The Red Storm improved to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in the PacWest.

Adams also added six rebounds and Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) chipped in eight points and grabbed six rebounds. The Red Storm shot 40.9 percent and won for the first time this year without scoring at least 70 points.

With 7:10 to play in the game, 42-42 and for the ninth time and final time the game is tied, Vaifanua's layup started a 11-2 run over the next four minutes to put the Vulcans away.

“We made some adjustments at the half that really helped us defend inside,” said Coach Angie Kristensen. “I liked our energy in the second half.”

For Hawaii Hilo they dropped to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the PacWest.

Hillary Hurley scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in just 26 minutes of play for the Vulcans. UHH shot just 35.7 percent from the field.

“Now we have to prepare for a difficult four-game 10-day road trip to Hawaii,” said Coach Kristensen. “We need to be ready to control our own destiny.”

The Red Storm will depart on Saturday and play next on Monday, Jan. 30 in Hilo, Hawaii. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Mountain and the games can be heard live via DixieAthletics.com.
