SERIES: Dixie State leads ART U 5-0

BREAK OVER:  The Red Storm will travel and embark on their first of three games on the San Francisco Bay Area road trip against Academy of Art on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 6:030 p.m. Dixie State will be playing for the first time in 16 days. Listen to the live action on the Red Storm Radio Network -- KXDS 91.3 FM -- and online via DixieAthletics.com with John Potter calling the play-by-play.

SERIES RECORD: This will be the fifth meeting between the two squads with DSC holding a 4-0 all-time series advantage over the Urban Knights. DSC is 1-0 all-time at Kezar Pavilion.

LAST TIME OUT: The last time DSC played was a Dec. 18, a 79-73 non-conference win over Cal State San Marcos in the Burns Arena. Four Red Storm players scored in double figures, including Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) team-high 19 points. DSC trailed at the half and shot its highest percentage from the field at 47.1 percent. DSC forced 27 turnovers, including a season high 19 steals in a solid defensive performance.

BATTLE OF FRIENDS: This marks the first match-up between two long time friends in AAU coach LaNay Larson and DSC coach Angie Kristensen. Larson had spent the last six years as the head assistant for the Red Storm. Having helped recruit a majority of the DSC players, she will know the tendencies of the players and will be well prepared for the match-up. Coach Kristensen said “She has done a nice job so far and she will have her kids ready to play. You can never count them out. I have seen them come back form 20 points down. I wish my friend the best of luck and it will be a lot of fun.”

SCOUTING the RED STORM: Dixie State will look to control the tempo in this game and will need to be able to match the intensity of the AAU squad. They will need to shoot the ball well to give themselves a chance to win. This can be achieved by patience in the match-up zone and taking good shoots. Leading the way for the Red Storm is Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) at 14.7 ppg. The Red Storm shoot 31.3 percent from behind the arc and 39.5 percent from the field. They average 73.4 ppg and will need to have a solid defensive effort.

SCOUTING ACADEMY OF ART:  A team that plays with a great deal of intensity and first year Head Coach LaNay Larson has her squad playing very hard right now. They like to play a 1-3-1 match up zone and will look to force DSC in taking quick shots. Their intensity causes teams to rush and creates a lot of havoc. They are led by leading scoring Alisa Griggs at 13.2 ppg and Jordan Rogers at 11.8 ppg. They shoot 34.1 percent from the field and just 24.4 percent from 3-point range. Averaging only 61.7 points per game, they like to slow the game down and control the tempo.
