Shearer leads Red Storm with 11 Kills in Win over Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Sep. 8, 2011- Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) had 11 kills and led the Dixie State Volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-9) sweep of Colorado Mesa University tonight in the first match of the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic.

The Red Storm (3-2) hit an impressive .393 in the match by committing only five hitting errors in the three-game match.

“We were able to take them out of their game early because we prepared well and executed according to our scouting report,” said head coach Darice Pratt.

Senior Lynzee Crosland (Kemmerer, WY/) collected nine kills in 10 attempts, a career high for her. Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan) and Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) continued to dominate the opposition by both adding nine kills as well, neither had a hitting error on the night.

Freshman setter Jen Hardman (American Fork, UT/American Fork) had 28 assists and paced the Red Storm with five service aces. DSC had nine on the night.

“Proud of the way my team competed, our passing and serving game really kept us in sync all night, concluded Pratt.

The DSC defense held the Mavericks (1-4) to just a .011 hitting percentage and used six team blocks to hold the net.

The Red Storm have three matches left this weekend in the classic. They will do battle tomorrow night with Fort Lewis College tomorrow night at 7:00 PM.
