VB: Red Storm drop PacWest Opener to Cal Baptist

SAINT GEORGE, Utah – The Dixie State College volleyball welcomed for the first time the newest member of Pacific West Athletic Conference Cal Baptist University. The Lancers prevailed in the four set match 23-25, 25-11, 26-24 and 25-23.
 
The Red Storm (5-4, 0-1 PacWest) jumped out in the first match by winning 25-23, only to see Cal Baptist (7-3, 1-0 PacWest) battle back to win the second set 25-11.
 
The Lancers relied on the solid outside play of Ingrid Carmona who collected 29 kills and hit a solid .364. She accounted for more than one third of the CBU offense. Andrea Csaszi also added 11 kills for the Lancers.
 
In the third and fourth sets, Dixie State had chances to extend the match. Leading 23-19 in the fourth, CBU rattled off six straight points to secure the victory.
 
Senior Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) led DSC with 17 kills, followed by Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan) and Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) with 10 kills each.  The Red Storm hit .152 for the match.  Jayci Jeffress (Brighton. CO/Brighton) added 16 digs in defense.
 
The Red Storm will host Hawaii Hilo next Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
