GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Sept. 10, 2011 –The Dixie State College women's volleyball concluded play in the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic by defeating Western State College in straight sets 25-19, 25-16, and 25-13. They lost earlier in the day to Adams State in four sets.
Dixie State (5-3) used the shoulders of their upper classmen
Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City),
Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan) and
Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) to pace them to victory and finish the classic 3-1. Shearer led the Red Storm with 17 kills, Hill added 15 and Jensen had 12.

Jen Hardman (American Fork, UT/American Fork) had 41 kills in the match and senior libero
Jayci Jeffress (Brighton. CO/Brighton) led the defense with 20 digs.
The Red Storm dominated the three set match by committing only 12 errors in 142 attempts and hit .275 for the match.

Darice Pratt said, “ I'm proud of the way we played this weekend.”
Despite losing the morning match to Adams State in four sets (23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 18-25), the Red Storm out hit the Grizzlies .147 to .103.
In the match, Shearer led the team with 15 kills and Hill and Jensen each added 14 a piece. The demise of the Red Storm was the nine service errors they committed.
Dixie State now will prepare and set their sights on Cal Baptist, the newest member of the PacWest Conference. The Red Storm and the Lancers will do battle next Saturday at 12:00 PM in the Student Activities Center (Old Gym).
