Softball Season Ends with 7-2 Loss to HPU

KANEOHE, Hawaii -- Dixie State College fell behind 6-0 after two innings and could not sustain a comeback falling 7-2 to Hawaii Pacific in the NCAA West-2 Regional.

The Red Storm's season comes to an end at 33-14 after claiming a share of its first ever Pacific West Conference title.

HPU seized the early momentum against Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) scoring twice in the first inning and four more times in the second. After an illegal pitch on a full count extended the inning and put Sea Warrior runners on first and third, Breanne Patton lined a double to left-center for a 2-0 lead.

Maile Kim blooped a two-run single to right and Kozy Toriano scored from third on a throwing error highlighting the HPU four-run second.

Dixie State scored its only runs in the fourth inning. With two on, Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) singled to left scoring Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) and Cassi Merrill (Calgary, Alberta/Foundations for the Future Charter Academy) plated Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School) with a groundball to second to cut the host team's lead to 6-2. Opportunities in the fifth and sixth innings fizzled out as the Red Storm left four runners stranded.

Brittnie Miller (Moab. UT/Grand High School) threw 4.2 innings of relief allowing one run on five hits while striking out four. DSC had eight hits – two each from senior catcher Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) and Brown.
