KANEOHE, Hawaii –
The saying in softball reads “the game's not over until the 21st out is on the scoreboard.” Sonoma State rallied to tie the game with two out in the seventh inning and pushed across the game winner in the eighth to defeat the Red Storm 3-2 on day one of the NCAA West Regional, hosted by Hawaii Pacific University.

The Seawolves, who advance to face CSU-San Bernardino in the winner's bracket on Saturday, scored first after perfectly executing a squeeze bunt in the second inning.

DSC responded with single runs in each of the third and fourth innings. PWC Player of the Year, Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) tripled with two out in the third and scored on an illegal pitch to even the game at 1-1.

Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School), who went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, led off the fourth with a powerful home run to left center field, her 10th of the year.

Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) carried the lead into the seventh inning and had Sonoma State in trouble with two outs in the seventh. Brittanie Verissimo singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Megan Konieczk singled to right field scoring Verissimo to tie the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Sonoma loaded the bases with no outs on a pair of singles and a fielder's choice. Ali Palermo completed the comeback with a single up the middle.

Samantha Lipperd struck out 10 batters in eight frames for Sonoma State (W, 26-8). Folta took the loss (17-8) after scattering six SSU hits in the final two innings.

Dixie State must battle out of the one-loss bracket for the team's dream to return to Salem, Va. to become a reality. The Red Storm face Pacific West Conference rival, Hawaii Pacific, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Hawaiian (5:30 p.m. Mountain).
