SB: Folta Tosses No Hitter and Red Storm Pound Out 36 Hits in Sweep of Dominican

SAINT GEORGE, UT- Junior Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pitched second collegiate no hitter today in a 17-0 win over Dominican University of California in PacWest Conference game at Karl Brooks Field.

Folta's first no-hitter came on March 29, 2008 against BYU-Hawaii at Karl Brooks Field. Today Folta had the help of the Red Storm (19-8, 10-2 PWC) offense in the second game of the doubleheader, DSC pounded out 23 hits in the five-inning affair.

The Red Storm scored nine runs on ten hits in the first inning. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ), Kylee Higgins (Layton. UT/Layton High School), Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) and Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) all hit home runs in the inning to pace DSC.

Dixie State would add five more runs in the second frame. Cassie Merrill belted a three run home run to left center field to give DSC a 14-0 lead.

Kourtnie Schlacter (Mira Loma. CA/Jurupa Valley High School) led the team with four hits, Egge added three and Merrill came into play left field and was 2-2 with five RBI.

Pitcher Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) who improved to 8-5 on the season, even picked her first hit of the season.

In the first game, the Red Storm scored 11 runs on 13 hits in the five-inning 11-3 victory.

Brittine Miller improved to 8-2, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out five Penguin (1-30, 0-14 PWC) batters.

Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) and Merrill each hit solo home runs. Egge was 2-3 with four RBI and Higgins, Ryanne Dacosin (Kaneohe, HI/Castle High School) and Judkins also had two hits apiece.

Dixie State will have Friday off before welcoming Academy of Art University for a four game series on Saturday and Sunday. Both games are slated to begin at 12:00 PM at Karl Brooks Field. Please check the DSC website for updates due to the expected inclement weather.
