SAINT GEORGE, UT-#
Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial )# was 3 for 3 with four RBI in the first game of a 12-1 and 9-1 doubleheader sweep of Dominican (CA) University today at Karl Brooks Field.

The Red Storm (17-8, 8-2 PWC) was able to capitalize on a Penguin (1-28, 0-12 PWC) miscue in the first inning to plate six runs.

After a Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) led the inning off with a triple to right field, Breanne Egge followed with an RBI single through the right side to give the Red Storm a early 1-0 lead.

After Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School) grounded into twin killing, Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School) was then hit by a pitch and Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) reached on an error by the second baseman, extending the inning.

The Red Storm proceeded to take advantage of the miscue and plate six more runs. Brown, Kylee Higgins (Layton. UT/Layton High School), Cassie Merrill all followed with RBI singles and Ryanne Dacosin (Kaneohe, HI/Castle High School) added a single up the middle for the final two RBI giving DSC a 6-0 advantage.

In the second inning, Brown again singled up the middle scoring Mendenhall and McFarland giving DSC an 8-0 lead.

The Red Storm were not done, scoring four more runs in the bottom half of the third frame. Dacosin singled and stole second base. Egge picked up her second RBI of the game with a single through the left side and Janessa Nielsen (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork High School) picked her first collegiate hit and RBI with a laser to centerfield. Brown's final RBI would come on a base hit deep in the hole at shortstop scoring Cue to give DSC the 12-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) (7-5) scattered seven hits allowing only one run in the top of the fourth inning to pick the 8-run rule shortened win.

Offensively, Merrill, Dacosin, Egge each added two hits to add to Brown's three in DSC's 15 hit attack.

In game two, Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) had four strikeouts and didn't allow an earned run while scattering three hits to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Red Storm would need six innings to freeze out the Penguins in this game. McFarland paced Dixie State with a 3-4 performance and three RBI. Dacosin, Egge, Merrill and Kourtnie Schlacter (Mira Loma. CA/Jurupa Valley High School) each added two hits to the 15 hit parade. Brown would get a pinch hit RBI single to finish the day with five RBI.

Dacosin had three stolen bases in game two to give her four on the day.

Dixie State and Dominican (CA) are scheduled to play another PacWest doubleheader tomorrow starting at 3:00 PM at Karl Brooks Field.
